A Warmachine Battle Narrative: The Motherland’s Grudge

The battle raged as Allister Caine sought cover in the trees trying to get out of this situation alive. The Khadorans were making their advance as his men were taken by sniper fire. As he scanned the battlefield a mechanical shriek pierced the air as something burst from the opposite forest and into the open field. It came at him at a full run across the battlefield in long strides still screaming, steam and black smoke spewing forth. Caine readied his magelock pistols, taking aim at the thing’s bird-like head. Just as he was about to fire he saw the flash of a large blade thrust toward his midsection. Twisting his body like a cat, he tried to avoid the attack.
DOINK!
Blood ran down his overcoat as he gasped, before he could react the blade came at him again.
DOINK!
He fell, his strength leaving him. His eyes heavy, he looked up at his attacker. All he was able to see in his rapidly darkening vision was a bloodied knife and a lantern illuminating a face with unblinking yellow eyes.
As everything faded to black, the last thing thing he could hear;
“We’re no strangers to love, You know the rules and so do I…”
_____

Ah found the conclusion of a match my brother and Ah had amusing when Ah pictured it in my head and wrote the above.

Explanation (my brother’s words, edited slightly):
this was basically the last move of a Warmachine game my and I had on Monday. His Tonberry/Chocobo (The Old Witch and Scrapjack respectively) used their Unseen Path ability to get within melee range of my Warcaster (the aforementioned Caine). When we play, he usually has his computer’s music collection on random. So after he finishes killing me and we do the standard ‘good game’ handshake, what’s the first song to come up?

Yup. The Rick-roll.

Here is a shot of the Final Fantasy inspired Tonberry/Chocobo conversion:

if ah had failed in my attempt on Caine’s life (if my bro had placed him an inch further away out out of melee range) we think the narrative would’ve went like this:
_____

Caine readied his magelock pistols, taking aim at the thing’s bird-like head. Just as he was about to fire he saw the flash of a large blade as the Tonberry appeared before him, it’s knife thrust out, hoping to feel the blade bite into flesh and sinew… only to feel it pierce empty air.

Looking up, it’s vision was filled with the twin muzzles of Caine’s magelock pistols, with Caine’s smirking visage above them.

**Cue Caine’s feat round with Reinholdt, the Squire with an untapped accumulator circle and a full load of focus***

“We’re no strangers to love, You know the rules and so do I…” Caine began.
There was more said after that, but nothing could be heard over the sound of gunfire.
